MUD, GUTS, AND ROAR!

Hello!
This is the sport of people that are not only crazy enough to race cars with a lot of power, but take them on DIRT!

MUD
GUTS
ROAR!!

So if you like the thrill of driving really fast, and NDE every minute and turn, then this is the sport for you!
The WRC is a dangerous but incredible sport those of a strong heart, A great vehicle and a very specific skill set.

the WRC originally started as nine different races which used to be in the IMC (International Manufacturers Championship.)  The rally officially took place. in 1973, and has carried on through 2013.
In the forty years its been on, 20 people have lost their lives in this sport. Countless trees and hills now have names and scars. My condolences to the families who have lost loved ones.
May we all remember that nothing is worth more than someone's life.
May the mud be ever flying!

Hot Rods!

Hey!
A few days ago, I had the oppotunity to stop in a fantastic shop.  Full of restored and semi customized HotRods! The world of custom cars and hot rods is one that is full of passion, High-octane fuel and burning rubber.

These Movies never did muscle cars justice.
These cars are incredible pieces of machinery. The power behind these things are insane. They are not for the fainthearted. My respect to those who are willing to dedicate time and money into building these wonderful cars.
Until the next time! BE FAST! BE LOUD!

OUR NEW COOL BUS!!

Well, hello!
The American muscle post was just a taste of what was to come.
I am now in the U.S.A! The first thing me and my dad did before leaving, was find a car that would fit us all. Well, we did. and it just happened to be a icon. A very big icon.

My brother, Jed from Jacob and Jamie.

Um, Okay Wierd. Thanks Charis.

Yeah. School bus!

Yeah! A bright yellow School bus. 17 seats, a 6.2 Turbo diesel Injection, boasting 13-15 MPG.
For an American bus, a big american bus, that is pretty good going.
For us this was the perfect thing. When we came over in 2007 there was a few less of us, and we used a Ford E350 Econoline.
Okay not quite like this, but you get the idea.
And when we came over in 2000, we had a 1979 Chevrolet Suburban. I wanted to get one of these, but at $500-1000 they were affordable, but the economy was not fantastic. They do about 7-10 MPG, and they break easier than they fix. Unless you're me. I still want one, and if I ever come back to the states myself, I shall definitely have a shop around.

Yeah. we have a had a few icons thinking about it. The bus we have now is just what we needed.
A petrol would just not got us where we needed to be. Sure, plenty of power, (like I want), but not the economy.  This thing has climbed some of the toughest roads including Mt Rushmore, Yellowstone, and The Glacier National Park in Montana. I love this bus, and and I want to keep it.
I will keep you updated as best as I can, and I will let you know of further power and insanity.
There is going to be more on vehicles in the next post.
Safe Travels!!

American Muscle!

As promised! American muscle!

Many have been made, and to be honest, a lot of the the time they all look the same. but my favourite of all time, has to be a Ford Mustang 1968 fastback in midnight blue. my brother Jed, is a Camaro fan.
I have to agree.

BEAST!
Yes. Muscle cars. If you have ever seen the Transformers then you'll recognise the green car. Okay, the cars them selves. Ford Mustang. 1960's 5.5-6.5 V8 engines, pushing a measly 200-300 BHP. They were more for torque then anything else. Until now, the Mustangs have been left in the dust of other muscle cars. The Camaro is one of them.
Once upon a time there was a Dodge Charger. they were in their own right a very good car. For me personally, they weren't quite the same as Mustangs and Camaros.

There were others, but never quite fell into this category. One is the Mercury Cougar. It had the look, but lacked the power and performance. You may have seen its successor. The Ford Puma. It is pathetic.
Yes there is a muscle car in there somewhere, but I never seem to find it.
Pontiac GTO
Mercury Cougar
There are others, and the list could go on. but now we shall go into remakes of these cars.

The Pride of the Summer

Hello! As promised in the last post, I will open your eyes to one of the best van/bus/sleeper ever!
Here is the the 1965 VW T1 Splitscreen.
The perfect Weekend vehicle.
In their heydays, these beautiful buses, were a revolutionary design. They were built off of a bread van chassis and platform, they took the engines from the beetles, and then developed the shell from tin.
They have been used and abused, and truly tested beyond most vehicles today. The engines, at first begun to suffer continuous blowouts, as the air cooled system couldn't cope with serious heat.
You should be able to read the date on the sketch. 1947. They had no idea in 30, 40 years time they would still be doing a fantastic job at creating these buses.
If you have ever seen Jamie Oliver's Jamie's Italy TV series, All VW enthusiasts, will tell you that this was not a very accurate representation. His bus was not a happy bus at that moment in time. Sometimes, people have mood swings, and, yes, buses can too. I think.

You may notice more of the VW's from the 70' to 80's. this is due to a massive revelation of the fact that thess buses are awesome. With Splitties selling for up to £60,000, it is understandable that people will choose the cheaper alternative. Enter the 1970's! With the latest release of the VW Transporter in 1971, they came up with another shape and size altogether. The Bay-Window.
The perfect spot.

This was Fantastic! It wasn't just a van with a bed, you could get 6 people in side to travel in as well!
Plus the pop top, which meant an extra sleeping area, a bigger fridge and sink, and all in an affordable, robust, light-weight van that now came with automatic gearboxes!

Jamie in Italy.

Now crowds started flocking to the beaches, knowing that they could spend up to a week living out of the bus!
Also, people started to take interest in shows and showing off what they did to their campers. These continue on to this day, More and more people get involved every year!

But not all is well. Some people have a habit of ruining these wondervans

How many campers can you see?

That. Is. Ugly.

Poor thing.

Too many of the old school VWs look like this now. With a little bit of time and money it could look good again.
I myself am still looking for one.
When I get one, I shall do a post and tell you my progress.

Well, I shall just have to wait.

Next, American Muscle!

Safe travel!

Minis: Now and Then

Hello Everyone!

Today I am opening the doors into a world of Minis. Coopers, Cooper S, Countryman, Cooper D, Cooper SD, One, the whole lot. The world was taken by a storm when Austin pruduced this little car.
I used to work in a garage that only did Minis. I personaly don't rate them, but some people do.
Celebrating 50 years on the road
Mini's have been around since the late 50's, and to be honest while they have got bigger they haven't got any better.  They were designed to be a family vehicle, Good MPG, And most importantly, Affordable. The only problem we have with the originals now, is obviously, with some of them from the 70's to when they stopped producing and sold to Bmw, is rust. The body work dosen't like the sea or the salt on the roads, so, If you do own one, in really good nick, take care of them, as body parts, decent grills and bumpers are becoming increasingly rare, in the quality that a lot of people look for.

Now I could tell you all kinds of sob stories of how I wanted one, and I couldn't get one, but no, I won't bother. I don't have any to begin with!
No, I want a 1968 VW T1. Fantastic, brilliant, perfect, amazing, duarable, reliable, easy-to-work-on, hard-to-break, wonderful, good-looking Campervan.

Man, I'm spoiling it for you. I will go into detail on this in another post.
